Sweet Success

Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible. -Doug Larson

Sometimes what holds us back from trying new things is our own fears.

Fear of failure, fear of making a mistake, fear of being criticized, fear of starting and not finishing, fear of not knowing exactly how to begin, fear of not knowing how it will turn out... I could go on.

I have had a lot of these fears throughout my life.
I've always been amazed at what happens when I face my fears. Even if I make a mistake I've learned something...tested out something new...tried and discovered something I didn't know before.

All of this comes to mind when I look at this image of the chairs I refinished for my Mom. I'd never attempted anything like this before. I didn't have all the tools or knowledge...but I stepped forth and did.

First, I had to take apart the chairs by removing the seat pads. Then I had to sand off the original paint, prime the wood, and repaint. After finding some cool fabric I recovered the seats (top and bottom) and put the chairs back together.

I had to have a little help (from my Mom) in learning how to make a good corner for the seat...and while I didn't do a perfect job... they aren't bad! They turned out cute, functional and I discovered something I loved to do...
