Thou hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, - a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise.
- George Herbert

This week's Five Minute Friday topic is: Grateful.

That one word holds so much meaning for me as I have much to be grateful for.

I start with the more obvious things like my family, friends and home. Those are definitely huge blessings in my life. However, it's the tiny gifts I discover each day that really make my grateful heart swell.

Little things like:

Pulling into a parking spot and spying this caterpillar on a pole.
Ribbons of blue sky streaking a partly-cloudy sky.
An unexpected and extremely encouraging phone call from a friend.
A peaceful, quiet and beautifully simple view from my rocking chair.
Homemade soup sent home to me by my Mom.
Watching cherries slowly ripen outside my office window.
Music that causes my hands to instantly rise to praise God.
Easy and free breathing.

Those tiny little things add up to something priceless because each one caused me to smile, to feel lighter in spirit and to be inspired to keep searching for more tiny things to be extremely grateful for.

PS: I wrote about the topic Lisa Jo selected for the day however, I did not follow her rules. You are supposed to write for five minutes without stopping or editing your work. I needed a few extra minutes to sort through the all the thoughts and feelings that churned inside me when I pondered the word: grateful. Take a minute, if you have the time, and think about what that word means to you. I'd love it if you'd share it with me, too. Blessings for a very happy weekend!
