For Daddy...

Dad, your guiding hand on my shoulder will remain with me forever.  - Author Unknown

Dear Dad,

It's taken me most of the day to figure out what this clenched fist was doing squeezing the life out of my heart.

I finally figured out that tomorrow is Father's Day and I'm really - REALLY - missing you.

I have so much to tell you, so much to say... but I trust you know my heart because you always did.

Seventeen and a half years has gone by like a blink of an eye and also like the one of those horribly long and boring old novels I was forced to read in that English class I dreaded during High School.

You'd be so proud of Mom, Dad.  You'd be so happy for your son and his family.  You'd be thrilled to have grand-babies growing up much too fast.

I wish I could say you'd have reason to be proud of me.  I've felt like a failure since you've been gone...before that actually.

Writing that last statement has me remembering that you discovered my secret just prior to your going to be with Jesus.  I think knowing the past would have you encouraging me, cheering for me and I change my mind.... I do think you'd be proud of me, too.

You and I have a lot in common, Dad.  Things that I think we'd have some great heart to heart talks about.

I think of you so often and I hear your wise words:  "Go slow around corners and on overpasses after it's rained because it'll be slick."  "Watch out for black ice."  "You need more blush, SD."  Have fun, be good."  "I love you."

Other examples you voiced with actions:  "Follow your heart.  Go for your dreams.  Take a chance and/or a risk.  Shine for Jesus and His love for you no matter what others say or do."

Oh Daddy, to run up and throw my arms around you just one more time.  To smell your cologne, to hear your heart beat, to hear you laugh...

These Calla Lilly's are for you.....

Happy Father's Day, Dad.

I love you my Daddy...my Daddy, oh how I love you.

And, by the way, did I tell you I miss you??

Your Daughter, (SD)

PS:  These are for DJ, too - who's with my Dad.  With Love.

PSPS:  Happy Father's Day to all celebrating today.
