I soon realized that no journey carries one far unless, as it extends into the world around us, it goes an equal distance into the world within.  - Lillian Smith

This week's Faith Jam word is Journey.

I saw this prompt, read Bonnie's post and promptly signed out of my blog.

Journeys for me have been long, arduous, not fun and wrought with stress and strife.

I read that last sentence and cringe.   Surely, not ALL of my journey's have been that way.

And perhaps they haven't been filled to the brim with those adjectives and feelings, but yes, they have all held something close to that description.

Except one.

I took a vacation by myself.  I went to the ocean and got a hotel room that looked out toward the beach and the waves.  I napped.  I laid by the fire in my hotel room. I explored the beaches, the towns nearby and took a ton of pictures at sunset.  I even sat in restaurants (nice ones and homey ones) and ate my meals alone.

It was empowering.

I'll never forget those three days which helped to propel me forward to this new journey I'm on.

Journey's are not predictable.  They are open to all kinds of "life matters."

They can be scary or sad or absolutely wonderful .... or a mix of so much more.

I choose to think of this journey as an opportunity to take more risks, to be more true to myself and to lean very heavily on God.  I'm thankful He can handle me and all my mess that I give to Him daily.

The sun is shining bright today.  So bright I can barely see my computer screen.  I can't make myself move though.... the sun is so warm and wonderful.

There's beauty in everything.
There's beauty in every journey.
Even if you have to search with all your might - there's beauty - if you look for it.

  1. Lovely post, SD. It's gutsy of you to go on a vacation alone. I don't know if I would but I'm so impress with your courage.

  2. Oh yes! There is beauty in everything.I know this, but I have to be honest and say that sometimes I find it hard to see the beauty. Most times that is not the case.

  3. there is beauty to be found but sometimes it is hidden from us by what is in our hearts and minds.
