Five Minute Friday: Ready

One does not discover new lands unless one has the couarge to leave the shore. - Andre Gide

For some reason this Five Minute Friday's prompt has me stumped.

There are so many ways to take this word and run/write with it.

My thoughts are jumbled but here's what I've got:

I sometimes fear that I'm not ready for what may come next in life yet I know I am ready because I have Jesus holding my hand every step of the way.  If I force myself to stop thinking at the end of that first sentence, I'm good.  I'm strong, steady and ready.

I'm not ready for loved ones to go to Heaven before me.  I know this to be true at my very core.  I'll never be ready despite what I've been told.  I'm not a person that says good-bye easily.  And, I grieve long and hard for those I love and have lost.....which only tells me how much they meant and still mean to me.

I am ready for Autumn.  I love the colors that seem to glow at night from deciduous trees.  I'm ready for sweatshirts, jeans and boots.... cozy blankets and candles... lit fireplaces and warm cups of cocoa with those little marshmallows.

I'm not ready, however, for the sun to set at 4pm in December.  And, yes, I know that it's three months away so I have time to figure out how to BE ready when it gets here.

I am ready for this next juncture in my life....to live, to love, to grow, to experience, to heal, to learn, to stretch myself and to know more about the plan God has waiting for me.

With Jesus' help - I am ready for anything.

Stop.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I'm not ready either for the daylight hours to shorten to that point in December, so it is indeed good that we do have three months to prepare, eh?!

    Blessings,

    1. Hi Tammy and thank you for your visit! I'm soooooo thankful for the three months I have left to prepare. I think I have to start making a "bucket list" of preparation, too! LOL

  2. Stopping by from my blog and fmf! I was struck by this: "to live, to love, to grow, to experience, to heal, to learn, to stretch myself and know more about the plan God has waiting for me." I really found the words you chose thought provoking. Maybe it is even more important to be ready to learn than to be ready in the sense that we already know it all. Or ready to experience rather than ready because we have already experienced. Or ready to heal rather than ready because we are already healed and whole. Thanks for this thought today and the subtle shift in how I think about "ready". ~Katy

  5. I often say I am ready but I'm not really. I think that's because I don't fully trust the Lord's timing and promises. I do know they are true and I really do believe them but it's the everyday-ness of life that I falter in my truly being READY.
Great thought provoking 5 minute post.

    1. Sue, every morning I have to ask God to help me do today what He wants me to do.... and then I just shrug my shoulders and forget the rest. I refuse to let it bother me. :)

    1. Hi Lisa! You already have Fall weather there? I think it's supposed to be 90 here tomorrow.... a little warm for my taste but I'll take it instead of the 30's!! They will be here soon enough.
