Feeling the Fear

Fear cannot take what you do not give it. ~Christopher Coan

I've been filled with fear and anxiety for a long time.

It's gotten worse these past few days.

A stranger was beneath my living room window.

Gun shots went off hurting neighbors.

Events are scheduled in a location I'm not comfortable with and around people that are difficult to be near.

Tonight a friend called and offered to take me for a walk.

We ended up at this beautiful beach we'd never seen before.

The water lapped, the salt scented the air, the gulls soared on air currents and children laughed as they played in the cold water.

Part of the walk led to abandoned and broken down buildings and my mind went wild again with what could happen and I had to force myself to focus on the beauty again:

- purple butterfly bushes
- layers and layers of clouds
- many hues of blue that reached from the sea to the sky and back again
- the reassuring hug my friend gave me
- a bunny hopping along the sidewalk

I got home and read this post from Kristen about the terrorist attack in Orlando.  Another mass shooting.  A terrorist attack on our land - again.

The act was horrible.  The hate reprehensible.  The fear unimaginable.

After reading Kristen's post I was reminded that my God is greater than any terrorist, any fear, anything someone evil can dream up.

Jesus is Love.
Jesus is with me always.
Jesus casts out fear and replaces it with peace.

My heart goes out to those grieving and those living in fear.

A dear friend just reminded me tonight that when I am afraid and there is no physical hand to hold that I should imagine myself crawling up into the safety of Jesus' arms.

May you all feel the presence of Jesus.  May His peace replace all of our fears and may be focus on Him and not what we fear.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27 NIV

  1. My prayers continue....love to you....

  2. glad you were able to pull your self back from the fear while at the beach.

  3. Fear really can make us immobile and it can consume us.
That's when I grab hold of the Lord's hand and walk with more assurance.
Without the Lord, I am nothing.
Praying as you continue to Lean on Him.

  4. Yes,we all experience fears of varying degrees, but I also know that Jesus is the author of peace and not of fear.
